Benefit Art Show

Save the Date and Save the Trees!

The Chestnut Group is once again joining forces with the Nashville Tree Conservation Corps for an art show and sale to benefit trees and greenspace in Nashville. Mark your calendars for April 7-10 and plan to join us for an art exhibit and fundraiser at Shelby Bottoms Nature Center.

Close to half of the proceeds from the art sale will support efforts to remove invasive plant species and restore native forests, and to create an operational endowment for the newly formed “Friends” organization for Lockeland Springs Park in East Nashville.

Artists from the Chestnut Group, a local society of plein air painters, have been painting scenes in Lockeland Springs Park and other Middle Tennessee natural sites in preparation for the show. “Speaking for the Trees/Lockeland Springs Park Art Show & Sale” will give Nashvillians an opportunity to take home a piece of art that captures this fragile urban space.

Lockeland Springs was heavily damaged in the March 2020 tornado, prompting a shared effort by neighborhood volunteers and the Tree Corps to restore the park and replant trees. That project eventually led to a 4-acre land purchase that has expanded the small park and connected it to the larger Shelby Park & Bottoms.

Paintings like “Coming Home To Roost” by Judson Newbern will be on exhibit at the show.

Friends of Shelby Park & Bottoms is playing a central role in the art show by hosting the event. Mayor John Cooper will speak at an opening reception on April 6 to recognize the importance of land and tree preservation.
